From Istanbul to Arizona: A Lifelong Passion for Artistry
The story of The Local Jeweler is one of dedication, heritage, and the pursuit of perfection. Our founder, Murat Ozuzun, began his journey in Istanbul, Turkey. In 1982, he chose to step away from traditional schooling to dedicate himself to the intricate trade of jewelry making - a decision that would shape his entire life.

"Something about jewelry making spoke to me," Murat shares. "Having my own station and being able to create for people - it spoke to my heart."

In those early years in Istanbul, access to heavy machinery was limited. This forced Murat to master the art of hand-crafting, ensuring every cut, polish, and setting was done with meticulous care. This old-world foundation of manual precision remains the beating heart of The Local Jeweler today.

A Global Journey: From Los Angeles to the Alaskan Frontier
In 1985, Murat brought his growing talents to Los Angeles. There, he honed his skills by training alongside some of the most gifted Armenian jewelers in the world, absorbing diverse techniques and styles.

Life has a way of leading us to unexpected places. Following the global shifts after 9/11, Murat was offered the opportunity to work as a jeweler in Skagway, Alaska.

"Alaska was my dream place since I was an 8-year-old boy," he recalls. "I didn’t know much about it besides movies and pictures, but it was like a dream come true. I fell in love with Skagway the second I stepped into it."

Murat made Skagway home, establishing The Local Jeweler in 2005 and building a loyal community of customers who valued his rare combination of artistic vision and technical repair skill.

Today, Murat and his family have planted new roots in San Tan Valley, Arizona. We are proud to bring our decades of experience to the local community, continuing a legacy of excellence as one of the region’s most dedicated jewelry artists.
